Built for Longevity

Every home we design is shaped by cold-climate experience, performance modeling, and proven details. We balance healthy interiors, long-term efficiency, and equitable access—because design isn’t working if it only works for some.

Standardized and Repeatable

From the capillary break on the footing to the depth of the roof overhang (and everything in between), the details are what make the houses work. We use integrated design to optimize the parts to build the house and the systems to run the house.

  • Specific insulation levels for high performance are tailored for climate zone 6 and climate zone 7

  • Low heating and cooling loads allow for smaller equipment and ductwork

  • Low loads make it cost-effective for all energy needs to be met with super-efficient electric equipment, powered by clean renewable energy

What’s Zero Energy?

A Zero Net Energy home produces as much renewable energy each year as it consumes—bringing annual energy bills down to zero.

Our approach to zero net energy design:

  • Optimize energy conservation with passive solar design, airtight construction and extra layers of insulation.

  • Utilize super efficient mechanical systems, lighting and appliances.

  • Operate with all-electric energy use, so no fossil fuels are burned on site.

  • Size a solar array to meet the annual energy load of the house.

What’s Different

Most new homes have been built the same way for decades, and don’t address increasing energy and climate instability. We combine building science principles and practical experience to design homes that are healthier, more efficient, and more comfortable. Our homes provide security, even in changing conditions.

Our standards aren’t experiments. They’ve been vetted by expert builders, industry partners, and specialists who know what works. We use familiar assemblies and materials that are available almost everywhere, making the homes straightforward to build and easy to maintain.

The payoff? A home that uses less than one-third the energy of a typical new house. Pair it with solar, and your home can make as much energy as it uses—so your annual energy bill can shrink to zero.

What else is different? No gas lines. No fossil fuels. Just a clean, all-electric home built for the future.

AIR BARRIER AT THE SHEATHING
Seams and connections are sealed to create a durable, protected air control layer.

CONTINUOUS EXTERIOR INSULATION
Wraps the walls like a winter coat, keeping sheathing warm and dry.

NAILBASE PANELS
Rigid insulation bonded to plywood/OSB, allowing siding and barriers to fasten directly and securely.
